The SHAKYA clan was an ancient Indo-Aryan tribes who lived in the region corrosponding to modern day southern Nepal and northern India, near the footh-hills of himalayas. Modern archaeological sites such as Tilaurakot of Nepal and Piprahwa of India are associated with the ancient Shakya settlements. Historically, the Shakyas are significant because Siddharta Gautama, who later known as the Buddha was born into this clan. Around 600 AD the Shakya Prince named Bijoygiri left his Magadha kingdom with 26,000 soldiers who travelled south through the hills of Assam. They conquered many lands and established new kingdom by Arakan hills along the banks of modern Chittagong Hill Tracts. Currently the SHAKMA/CHAKMA people are the last known decendant of the MAHA (main) SHAKYAS living in southeast Asia. Due to their warrior superority the CHAKMAS earned the title  DEIGNET meaning the "SWORD" from the Arakanis who were ruled under the Chakma king Bijoygiri.
